Big Sur will make you a believer

October 18, 2018 By John Dvorak

In my book there’s no better stretch of California coastline than Big Sur. The drive from San Simeon to Monterey is filled with magical places, some dear to my heart.

Here’s a series of photos from a recent drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco. I took some extra time to pass through Big Sur and camped for a night.

Looking north at Pacific Coast Highway and Big Sur coastline
The view from my campsite. Not bad.
Another amazing view from my camp site
Camping under the stars
I hiked to the top of Cone Peak, elevation 5155 feet. From Coast Ridge Road, it’s less than five miles round trip
The views for lunch were pretty sweet
A large rookery of elephant seals on a Big Sur beach not far from San Simeon
Beaches like this!! McWay Falls at Julia Pfeiffer State Park
Final destination San Francisco. Driving home on the I-5 freeway was not nearly as fun 🙁
