The West Fork Trail is one of Sedona’s most popular hiking trails for a reason. The beautiful canyon trail is an easy-going pleasure with plenty of protection from the summer heat.
The trailhead is located a few miles north of Sedona off Highway 89A in the Call of the Canyon picnic area. There’s a parking fee at the trailhead. Free parking on the side of the highway exists but is largely restricted. Call of the Canyon Nature Trail and Thomas Point Trail also originate here.
Measuring 3.3 miles in distance or 6.6 miles roundtrip, the West Fork Trail includes very little altitude change. The trickiest parts are the 13 creek crossings that require agility and balance to keep your feet dry. When I completed the trek it was August and the water was low. Always be wary of current conditions as water flow can vary depending on the time of year.
More intrepid hikers can continue deeper into the canyon past the 3.3-mile marker if the creek level is low enough. There’s a sign at the end warning that the trail is no longer maintained beyond that point and that camping is not allowed for another 2.75 miles (6 miles total).
